I have decided to not buy new summer tires/do the timing belt/etc... on the Honda. So I will buy another old car come spring. Time to do the necessary homework. The requirements are that it needs to be a comfy cruiser wagon with at least 200hp. These seem to be just what the doctor ordered? How bad is Audi reliability really?

The 3.0 TDI is also tempting.

There’s a lot of hate for older Audis on the net, but are they really that bad? These two cars look like great value for money to the untrained eye. They have rather low mileages too.

What are the model years? The website is so vague.

That’s about double my budget. And let’s not start with insurance and road tax, etc....

06-08 seem to be in my price range (10K to 13k with under 150k kms).

i bet those both are coming up on a very expensive maintenance point. I think most need a timing belt or chain around 90,000 freedom units. (140ish kms). They can be costly to maintain but if maintained they are supposed to be great engines. I just think most people dont want to through money at them so they fall apart, just like any other car, but maybe a bit more expensively. Other things, like pads and rotors are actually easier than most cars. The CVshaft was easy. I had to half dismantle the car to replace the fan.

The hate I’ve seen for older Audis seem limited to the generation of A6 before the one you’re looking at. ‘06 to ‘08 should be quite solid, from what I’ve read.
Were a manual diesel A6 of that gen available here, I’d already have one...

I would check with AutoBild and motor-talk.de. I hear some transmission choices are pure rubbish and don’t even last 100k km. But the 3.0TDI might have a different one all together.
